Matt Cutts from Google explains that his company has not considered “duplicate content” as spam but you need to be prepared. One thing is certain – double content doesn’t help any e-business.
“Double content” is more popular than you might think. Content reproduction is an anguish of the modern internet – in an era of unrestricted access to any websites, you can find many times the same, copied content in different locations. Examples of non-malicious duplicate content could include store items shown or linked via multiple distinct URLs or content syndicate on other sites.
How Google manage this issue? It all starts with the search engine crawler – Google first hits of consecutive copies of text, and then indexes them. If crawler finds link farms or blacklisted IP addresses, search engine eliminates them from the results, and then analyzes the remaining copies of the content and chooses the one that will be displayed on the search results.
“So what’s the problem? Even if I use two domains, Google will show my content from one of those?” Yeah, maybe, but you never know which address will be chosen. So if you has oldest version of your store, for example: www.buyonline.zencommerce.in (from 14-day free trial) and new one: www.buyonline.com, you should take care of this issue right now. Do it, to avoid these things reported by users on many discussion forums:
“If only one domain will be shown in the results only, ane the other ignored, even as it will have a cache… And this is pointless! Googlebot can index the second domain, but it will not show in the results, only ate your transfer…”.
Matt Cutts from Google explains that his company has not considered “duplicate content” as spam and not impose penalties because of this. But… Original and duplicating content always will be better than the copied one. Remember about it not only if you have to manage double domain issue but even when you write descriptions of your products. Stop using content received from the producer or distributor – do it yourself, be original and above competition.
Of course, there’s a chance that someone will going to steal content from your store and use it without your permission, but don’t think about it. Just do your job. Instead of “Copy & paste” habbits start writing your own product descriptions and other content for you online store. See below for a few tips from Google:
What you need to do if you have the same store on multiple domains? If your Zencommerce store is still available at the testing domain go to store panel and click on the tab: Configuration> Basic Settings> About the store. Then field Address option, type the domain name and set it as the only one that will be appears in the browser (force shop address to YES). That would be tantamount to redirect 301.
